Idle Armies

Idle Armies is an endless clicker, but it’s also so much more than that. It takes RPG tropes and turns them on their heads. The game lets you play as characters on both the good and bad sides, although which is which is often difficult to determine.

While all you have to do is tap the screen furiously to bash enemies, Idle Armies actually has a lot more going on beneath the surface. We devised some tips to help you get started down the right path.

Climb the upgrade ladder
When you first start, things are a bit boring and move quite slowly. You don’t do a whole lot of damage, and it takes a while to kill just one orc. Levelling up your hero just once will make a big difference.

It's recommended that you level up once or twice, and then save some cash for the next hero. Once you have two party members, you’ll be cutting through enemies with ease and earning more coin at a higher rate.

Continue levelling up even after you unlock your heroes. Every 25 levels, you can upgrade your character in exchange for coins. These boosts include anything from improved critical hit rates to a bump in damage per second. Once you're eligible for an upgrade, you’ll spot a tiny green exclamation point over your character’s portrait. Tap it and upgrade away. Simple.

Are you still not powerful enough? Well, you can also buy and upgrade your spells or weapons. If you’re playing as the good guys, you can purchase elemental spells, like a fireball, that do massive amounts of damage. Baddies get some serious weapon skills. They’re well worth the hefty price, but do save up for other upgrades and level ups first.

Watch the ads
Every few minutes the game prompts you to watch an ad. Normally this is just a minor annoyance common with free to play games. Idle Armies takes a different approach. Watching a 30 second ad actually nets you a very generous gold or crystal bonus. It’s well worth the break, so take advantage!

Shop ‘til you drop
If you follow the tips above, you’ll soon have more gold than you know what to do with. Luckily Idle Armies gives you plenty of opportunity to spend it. Apart from buying levels and spells, you’ll also unlock fun new locales like the shop, temple, and barracks, where you can buy rare items, mercenaries, and more. You’ll find that there are a bunch of areas that differ depending on which side you’re playing on, so be sure to experiment!

Idle Armies is imaginative and addictive RPG fun. Follow these tips and you’ll be on a roll. Bonus tip: pay attention to the banter. It might just be the best part.
