In the tradition of mobile games named like Crossy Road, Twisty Board is an endless arcade game with voxel graphics where you ride a hoverboard.

Looking at the title and screenshots of Twisty Board, one thing is abundantly clear: It's another take on the Crossy Road formula. That said, the act of hover boarding in this game is actually pretty satisfying, making it a cut above your average clone.

Hover or die

In Twisty Board, you play a hover boarder that is trying to navigate one of a few randomized environments that is littered with obstacles, coins, chests, and missile launchers. Your goal is to collect as many coins as possible while avoiding running into obstacles or getting hit by heat-seeking missiles, which is easier said than done.

The whole affair is controlled by tapping the sides of your screen to steer your boarder, which works quite well. Just be sure not to steer in circles to idle for too long since that causes bombs to fall on you, ending your run immediately.

Cool boarders

Between runs in Twisty Board you can spend your earned coins to unlock new characters to play as.

Although none of them have differences between them beyond their looks, this unlocking system helps challenge you to keep playing the game and tempting you to make risky maneuvers for coins.

Not so Crossy Road

Twisty Board plays just fine, but it so readily invites comparisons to Crossy Road that when it doesn't do something quite as elegantly, it sticks out as a bad thing.

The main "something" I'm referring to is the ad serving for Twisty Board. Instead of being completely free of pop-up ads like Crossy Road, Twisty Board serves ads between runs. You can make a purchase to opt out of these ads of course, but this just underscores the fact that Crossy Road had a less intrusive system.

The bottom line

If you haven't yet had your fill of Crossy Road and games like it, Twisty Board is a solid variant on that formula. It isn't perfect, nor is it entirely original, but it plays well nonetheless.
