You Got Beat is a fairly intense experience but also a fun one. It’s all about matching the musical beat with taps of your finger. That means it’s incredibly simple to learn, but soon quite tough to master. Either way, it’s pretty fun and has a good sense of progression to it.
Each level is made up of four beat pads and a stream of ‘notes’. You tap on the corresponding beat when the line goes over a note with excellent timing rewarding you with a ‘Perfect’ rating. Often, you’ll be tapping on two beats at once, with slight tweaks to the timing.
Early on, this is simple enough as the BPM is fairly low at 90 BPM. Reach a particular score though, and you unlock a harder setting. This trend continues as you progress, and it’s an effective way of keeping you motivated. You can use gems to unlock new beats too, which are earned through watching video ads or performing many perfect streaks - something that’s more appealing than buying your way in.
Well constructed, You Got Beat will sometimes test your patience, but it’s frequently quite enjoyable. It’s an ideal game to dip in and out of.
