Dropimals is disappointing like cotton candy that’s only average. If something is going to be that insubstantial it better be sweet enough to make up for it. While Dropimals is certainly cute, unless one pays up, it isn't nearly sweet enough to excuse how unfilling it is.
This puzzle game tasks players with stacking animal blocks until their tower reaches the goal. The ideal block positions are outlined and lining up with them perfectly yields bonuses but as long as a falling block doesn't completely miss it'll be fine. This isn't like Topple where balance matters. However, losing blocks results in strikes and three strikes means game over.
Each new block moves from side to side at the top of the screen and by tapping anywhere players will cause it to stop and fall wherever it is. Complicating this is the fact that the blocks, each representing different animals like snakes or pandas, have different speeds and movement patterns to account for when timing taps. Still, it is ridiculously basic.
Adding insult to injury, the only mode included with the game, where players must simply reach the goal, takes literally seconds to complete. Sure, players could just play more rounds but the modes that actually make the mechanic feel unique and challenging, like the infinite mode, are behind a pay wall. Freemium tactics like this are nothing new but its use here results in a package that is discouragingly bare bones even for a puzzle game.
The cartoon art is generic but clean and serviceable, and the cheery music is actually quite pleasant. However, there's no getting past just how little there is here. Still, it is free and short so at least there's not much to lose by checking Dropimals out.
