When we reviewed The Hero back in March it was with favorable disappointment. Favorable because it’s a well designed game with beautiful graphics, disappointment because the trailer had us EXTREMELY excited, and the story fell short. Taking that package and moving it to upgraded graphics, an iPad specific single finger control structure, and enjoying it on the larger real estate makes all that we loved about it better, while keeping all that we were frustrated with the same.
Looking at The Hero HD as a game player, there is as much to be interested in as there is to be turned off by. There is a real lack of story, and this has never really been my personal style of gaming interest. My issues are offset by a great control scheme and some stunning graphics. If this type of game seems to fit your interest, you've got a winning combination.
Overall I’m going to have to say that The Hero HD wouldn’t be much worth the upgrade, if it weren’t for its insanely low price. It's priced regularly for $1.99, but if you act fast you can snatch it up for $.99. That's not a whole lot of scratch, and it is rather pretty.
