The beginner's guide to building a great deck in The Elder Scrolls: Legends

The Elder Scrolls: Legends has just arrived on mobile gadgets, making it the perfect time to jump into this massively popular CCG. CCGs are intricate beasts, though, so you may be overwhelmed if you're just starting out. We covered some beginner's tips earlier this week, now it's time to dig into deck building specifically. Here's how to build the best deck as a novice player.

A piece of advice that applies to many CCGs -- it's always a good idea to have as few cards as possible. In The Elder Scrolls: Legends, you need a minimum of 50 cards. Try to stay close to that number when you're building out your deck. The fewer cards you have, the higher your chances of drawing your best cards. Keep your deck colorful
You'll generally want a deck that has two colors to keep things good and balanced. Make sure that your deck has an even amount of each color. If you want to learn more about how different colors mesh together, take a look at the decks on Legends Decks for some ideas. It's an invaluable resource for beginners and advanced players alike.
Study up on archetypes
There are generally four types of decks in Legends -- Aggro, Combo, Control, and Midrange, although there is some variation within these. If you're planning on building a deck up from scratch, you'll want to build it to one of these types.
Aggro decks are usually made up of large groups of smaller monsters that can do massive damage quickly. The strategy here is to win matches swiftly before reaching later stages of the game. Crusader and Battlemage are some of the more popular decks for this archetype.
Control decks are essentially the opposite of aggro -- the marathon runner of the Legends world, if you will. These decks take a slow and steady approach to strategy. Mage and Monk are quite popular here.
Midrangeis a blend of control and aggro if you're looking to get the best of both worlds. Warrior, Assassin, and Scout are all popular Midrange choices.
Combo decks are probably the most advanced type. These decks are usually made up of groups of cards that, when paired together, are capable of pulling off specific effects that could potentially take the match in one go. Assassin and Mage decks are popular Combos.
Consider investing in the Starter PackIf you're planning on sticking with your fledgling Legends habit, you may want to consider purchasing the Starter Pack. Yes, we know. In-app purchases can be yucky, but the Starter Pack is one that actually pays off. The Starter Pack grants players 10 decks for $4.99, which is a pretty sweet deal, considering normally 10 decks would run close to $15. Plus you're guaranteed at least one Legendary card. It's a great, easy way to set up a nice base of cards for yourself.
Once you've familiarized yourself with the game by playing through Story Mode, it's time to jump into the Solo Arena. If you don't want to spend money on a Starter Pack, the Arena is an excellent way to earn gold and card packs. Be sure to share your own deck building strategies in the comments below!
