Temple Run has a lot to answer for. In this case, it's almost certainly responsible for the fairly uninspired clone, XRun Space. While tight controls might help to enthuse players slightly more, its predictable and somewhat soulless gameplay undoes any good will offered to it.
This time around, players attempt to run away from a demon robot pursuing them at all costs. A small glimpse of the creature is noticed every time the player falters, but that's generally about it in terms of other characters or creatures. Instead, players will be mostly faced with a series of quite monotonous corridors within a space station.
Controls are typical of a Temple Run style game. Tilt to the left or right to collect up the chips scattered around, while swipes to the left or right direct the character down other paths. A swipe up jumps, while a swipe down causes one to duck under obstacles. Those obstacles never seem to change, much like the landscape never evolves either.
It proves to be a pretty samey game throughout. As a big fan of Endless Runners, it wasn't so much that I disliked XRun Space, just that it offered nothing to tempt me towards it amongst all the superior offerings. It's possible to spend collected coins on various upgrades, such as a one-off boost to skip the first 500m or 1000m of a level, or to buy the use of special power-ups, but again it's pretty safe stuff. Peculiarly, XRun Space lacks any way of sharing high scores amongst other players, leading it to be a very solitary affair.
Lacking sufficient reason to make one return to XRun Space, it's tough to recommend when there are so many better games in the genre, even if it is free. Everything about it might work reasonably well, but with no personality it's just not worth it.
