Whatever your views on bull fighting and the infamous annual bull runs that occur across the world, there's no denying that it's quite a spectacle. Super Mad Matador offers a similar spectacle while taking out any risk of harm to the person or bulls involved. It's not a particularly exceptional Endless Runner and it's rather expensive for what it is, but it is briefly fun.
Players take the role of a matador as they attempt to outrun the bull, while also taunting it into continuing to pursue them. Using one touch controls, a tap of the bull torments it with a red cloak, while other touches control the trajectory of the fighter. The trick is to encourage the bull to "splat" other runners, run and jump over ramps, while also taking out crates and barrels. Plus, there's the prospect of coins to collect and combos to complete. Together, this leads to a simple upgrade system which, in the long term, boosts things all the further.
The trickle of coins is a little slow starting, so expect such upgrades to be out of reach for slightly too long for comfort. It is quite fun fleeing the bull though and a series of challenges give a reason to keep working at. The problem is it's just not quite enough. Sure, it's fun for five minutes but in a genre that's already quite saturated, Super Mad Matador struggles to maintain momentum. The variety of what can be done just doesn't feel significant enough to sustain interest.
Throw in the hefty price tag of $2.99 and it's tricky to recommend Super Mad Matador above others. For $0.99, it might feel more worthwhile but as it stands, there are too many better and cheaper Endless Runners already out there.
