Do you remember Snail Bob? I don’t but it looked kind of fun. Snail Bob 2 continues in a similar vein, with you controlling Bob the snail as he traverses many obstacles while trying to dodge some perilous bad guys along the way. Yup, it’s a puzzle game - and a fairly enjoyable one, too.

A lot of that sense of joy comes from the attention to detail within Snail Bob 2. Each level is flourishing with things to look at, whether it’s a poster of a muscular snail (really), or simply taking in the colorful grounds. Everything looks wonderfully animated and pretty, which is why Snail Bob 2 soon feels like an ideal family puzzle game.

There aren’t many controls to learn either, proving to be quite intuitive. While there’s a button for changing the direction that Bob takes, everything else is down to interactions on screen. You can tap on his shell to cause him to stop for a moment, while various buttons built into the level affect what goes on. You can manipulate conveyor belts or platforms through tapping such buttons. Oftentimes, you’ll find yourself needing to press a button once to open something then having to press it again to trap Bob in the correct place.

It’s fun to figure out what needs doing but Snail Bob 2 is rarely that taxing. There’s no punishment to speak of for failing, you just try again. Along the way, you can collect stars too which are hidden amongst the landscape, encouraging you to look more closely at what’s going on. It’s simply done but again it’s appealing.

Throw in the costumes you can unlock and Snail Bob 2 ably demonstrates why it’s a particularly good puzzle game for youngsters. Adults will enjoy the gentle pace but it’s kids that will truly revel in what’s here.
