Sharknado: The Video Game Review

Remember that wonderfully ridiculous movie Sharknado? Yeah that's right, the one with the tornado made up of killer sharks (obviously)? Well now's there a sequel AND the official mobile game has finally arrived on iOS. Take a deep breath...

There's no tutorial as things kick off because, let's face it, who needs one for an endless runner nowadays? If it's not 'swipe downwards for slide or upwards for jumping,' someone hasn't done their job right. Once they've safely passed by roadworks or obstructing vehicles, players can then either just avoid the confused sharks by swiping left or right, or proceed to jump on and off of them to kill them, levelling them up (no idea why) and collecting the chum that functions as revive tokens.

There are a couple of power-ups to pick up along the way, including a variety of unlockable weapons from a baseball bat to a golf club, or a surfboard that will initiate a surfing sequence. During these sections players will be treated to the 'Ballad of Sharknado,' a hilariously terrible song that serves as a reminder of just how bizarre the whole thing is, just in case we'd forgotten (we hadn't). As if it couldn't get any weirder, players will then be transported into the Sharknado itself. So, while actually riding a shark, they'll need to kill other sharks with a chainsaw to finally defeat the Sharknado, only to be spat out to repeat the process.

Sharknado: The Video Game is a passable runner that's appeal will be measured by how long players will enjoy hitting sharks with various weapons and listening to a song that, while funny, will undoubtably get old fast.
