Rinth Island Review

Rinth Island sees the player scale ladders and solve puzzles in an attempt to reach the end of a level. Despite this formula never really changing throughout the game, enough new elements are introduced to stop repetition setting in.

The idea behind Rinth Island’s 60 levels is a simple one, as all the player has to do is reach a certain collectible that will end the level. Rather than just walking from A to B, though, the game has the player solve a number of platform based puzzles in order to progress.

Initially it’s all rather easy, as the player will be tasked with objectives such as pushing a box into a gap in order to cross it. The difficulty soon ramps up though, and the player will be dealing with all manner of objects in order to reach the end.

When the player gets stuck, which will more than likely happen a few times, restarting is almost instantaneous. The number of restarts is noted at the end of every level, though.

To add some replay value, there are four ways to play each level in the game. Adventure mode is just the standard “get to the end” mode. Timed gives the player a strict time limit to complete the level.

Steps sees the player try to complete the level in the least amount of steps, and Crystals scatters a number of crystal about and tasks the player with collecting them.

There’s also a really solid level creation tool, allowing players to pick from a number of options and create their own levels, which can then be shared online. Levels created by other people can also be played, again adding replayability.

Graphically the game is good, although the backgrounds are somewhat lacking. I also had a number of performance issues on my iPad, with frequent crashing and a bit of slowdown.

Overall, it’s easy to recommend Rinth Island. The concept is a very good one, and the ability to play levels created by other people is the icing on the cake.
