Motormate

I'm not a typical woman when it comes to cars. I love cars and driving. I dream of owning various supercars that I'll never be able to afford. I mostly know what the garage owner is talking about when I take the car in for repair. However I'll admit to knowing surprisingly little when it comes to what's under the bonnet, what certain noises indicate and what to do when there's a problem though. Motormate has the potential to help me a lot.

It's a compendium of common problems that might occur with your car. The diagnosis section asks you to describe things like what the car sounds like when you're trying to start it then makes some simple suggestions of what to try to get it going. It's all explained in a simple yet informative manner which is immediately useful to both complete newbies and those with slightly more understanding.

It's the reference guide that's most useful though. It tells you how to do things like change a battery, jump start a car or how to change a tyre. The instructions are simple but ensure to remind you of any potential dangers. It also goes onto explain various important terms such as the ECU and timing belt.

Finally, there's a Rescue Aid section which details your exact location to inform the breakdown services if you're truly stuck.

Motormate is quite a comprehensive little app. It covers all the basics making it ideal for those who are truly inexperienced with cars. If you know your way around stuff like changing a battery or diagnosing why a car won't start then this is probably too simple for you. For the majority though, it'll be an excellent resource that could well help you out one day.
