Previously available as a freemium app, Mega Run Plus is the repackaging of Mega Run but with the beauty of making fewer demands when it comes to one's hard earned cash. Glimpses of in-app purchase options remain but it's a much fairer bunch, and the initial $0.99 will still offer players plenty of fun for the price.
For the uninitiated, Mega Run Plus is an auto-runner. A game that owes much to Sonic the Hedgehog, with fast-paced action the focus here. The player doesn't dictate the speed at which our hero, Redford, travels at, but they do control the height in which he can jump. Holding a finger to the screen causes him to leap in the air and, hopefully, over the obstacles scattered around each stage.
Each stage doesn't take long to complete so it's good to see that not only are there a huge number of levels to run through, but plenty of reason to replay each of them. Besides collecting coins that can be used to buy boosts and aids, there are special gems to collect in order to feel as if one has truly finished the level.
The levels themselves offer some flexibility too, with different routes available to explore - further reinforcing reasons for one to replay each stage. That's also convenient in stopping the gameplay from feeling repetitive, which is something that Mega Run Plus neatly sidesteps from being too big an issue.
Indeed, it's a pleasant experience. Cheery and entertaining, it's an ideal match for mobile gaming, and the removal of many of the freemium elements further endears one to spending some time with it. Sure, it might not be the smartest of titles, but there's fun to be had. Isn't that all that matters, sometimes?
