Kupid is a slider shooter game where the goal is to use your archery skills to save all the hearts. The eternity valley of love is under attack by the evil dark force, and it’s up to the guardian sheep to protect all the hearts. The goal is to see how long you can last against the evil forces. Its simplistic and endless game play paired with adorable graphics and challenging mechanics make it fun to pick-up-and-play, but the repetitive style and lack of progression make it difficult to play for long.
At the start of a level, players control the sheep by moving him up or down a vine. Tapping anywhere on the screen releases arrows that capture the hearts. Creating combos with skilled shots helps reinforce the vine when it begins to shrink, but watch out for those cursed hearts and evil shots from the devil in the clouds. Getting hit by an explosive or striking a cursed heart means the loss of one life.
As Kupid progresses, the game gets more challenging as numerous bombs threaten to take out the vine and cursed hearts fill the screen. Power-ups like Thunder Shot and Phantom help ramp up the game play with hearts that are earned or bought via in-app purchases. These power-ups are a little on the pricey side, but they aren’t outrageous. Hearts can also be used to unlock costumes.
What’s great about this free title is that there aren’t any annoying ads that interrupt gaming sessions. There’s also Game Center leaderboards and achievements to be earned as well.
If you can get past the Woody Woodpecker style laughing, Kupid is fun to play for those looking for a quick gaming session. The repetitiveness and one mode game play don’t help it stand out enough to be anything special, but there’s promise of updates in the future. Since it’s completely free, it’s worth giving a shot. Just don’t expect cupid’s arrow to make you fall in love with it instantly.
