Like any part of the body, one's brain needs exercise and training at various points throughout life. We've all moved on from the likes of Brain Training on the Nintendo DS, to more technical fare such as Elevate - Brain Training. It's an educational app that's free at its most basic, but comes with a quite hefty subscription fee for the dedicated.
Each day, Elevate - Brain Training offers three tests to get one's brain ticking along. Covering a wide variety of different skill sets including Focus, Memory, Precision, Refinement, Syntax, Error Avoidance, Brevity, Inversion, Comprehension, Processing, Connotation, Contextualization, Visualization, and Agility, Elevate - Brain Training certainly offers variety.
These different tests can be broken down into four categories comprised of reading, speaking, listening, and writing. None of the exercises takes longer than a few minutes to complete but they are kind of satisfying - especially at the end when statistics give one the heads up on how they're progressing.
While one test might involve picking out inessential words in a sentence (believe me, there are probably loads here. In fact, "probably" is one of them), another might involve reading through something quickly before answering questions about it. It's interesting but simple stuff, ensuring that one feels like they've had a mental workout. Exercises such as picking out when one should say fewer rather than lesser soon becomes noticeable in day to day life too, showing the benefits of Elevate - Brain Training.
For free, Elevate - Brain Training is fairly restrictive - although it at least offers those all important three quizzes each day. Users can unlock all 14 games at any time, as well as other benefits for $9.99 a month or $59.99 a year. It's kind of pricey, but the benefits are there. As a clear to use and informative brain training tool, Elevate - Brain Training does the job, but do consider that price tag for anything long term.
