Panna Review

Panna is a video based cookery app that won't appeal to those looking for a bargain, but does offer some tasty delights.

While it's free to download, individual issues cost money with a 1 year subscription costing $14.99 for 6 bi-monthly issues. Given the quality of the content, however, I don't think that's too unreasonable a price. The app offers up one free recipe each issue, demonstrating just what to expect.

Users are given a selection of comprehensive videos explaining what's going on, alongside clear and concise instructions and a similarly clear ingredients list. A lot of effort has gone into the interface with photos and videos proving quite tantalizing to the hungry chef. Best of all, it's all quick to load and looks stunning on the iPad's screen.

Recipes come from four chefs, comprising of extensive experience in a variety of cooking styles from classical French to Italian and Mexican. It's a distinctly classy selection that should cover all interests.

Each recipe comes with an intro from the cook explaining why they love it so, both in text and video form. It's then very easy to either scroll down for instructions and ingredients, or scroll to the right to go step by step, again with videos explaining all. There's no stuttering or delay in terms of the videos loading, meaning it's a useful tool to have by one's side while cooking.

Panna might feel like an advert for the full package, which it is to an extent, but it works. The prospect of hours more of high definition coverage is quite appetizing for the aspiring chef. I'd have appreciated more free content to really captivate the user, maybe two or three recipes to check out, but for those who don't mind making a small investment, Panna is a good source for inspiration.
