Numbie Review

On the surface, Numbie seems like a pretty great mathematics-based game for young children. It’s easy to play and quite fun. There’s even a dashboard for parents to see how their child is progressing. There’s an irritant in the mix, though - namely how the app deals with in-app purchases.

For free, you get the first chapter. This chapter focuses on spotting the difference between various shapes, whether that be in terms of their size or color. There’s a simple narrative that encourages your kids to keep playing. It’s all quite charming and colorful, as well as a fun but educational way of entertaining your children.

Where Numbie falters is in how it regularly asks you to unlock new content. That content is priced in a number of different ways, such as through a subscription service or by purchasing one chapter at a time. The pricing is reasonable, but it’s how Numbie offers it to you, whether it’s you or your child, then simply asks for your password to purchase it. Where other apps appreciate that you want an extra level of security (just in case your kids know your password), Numbie dispenses with that and that’s a bit of an issue for an app aimed at such a young age group.

If you’re supervising your child at all times, Numbie is an easy recommendation to make. It’s certainly appealing enough. It just needs some refinement to make it that bit more child friendly than it currently is.
