The Contest is fractured, with the Spider-verse at each other's throats on the verge of spidey civil war in the current state of Marvel: Contest of Champions. Silk has entered the fray to try to calm the aggro, however, she finds herself stalked by the villainous Kindred in the latest update, Ties that Bind.

It is no secret that all versions of Spiderman and his offshoots have tragic backstories, but the story before Cindy Moon is probably the saddest. After being bitten by the same spider that bit Peter Parker, Cindy's powers manifested with organic webbing encasing her parents. She was taken away by Ezekiel Sims who trained her, before learning of a powerful hunter named Morlun was tracking her. And so, to save Cindy, Ezekiel locked her in a bunker for over a decade until Peter Parker rescued her, and she became Silk. Leaning into Silk's enhanced speed and greater-then-average Spider-Sense, or Silk-Sense, her fighting style leans more towards martial arts over her organic webbing. Silk has a lot of multi-hit combos designed to keep your opponents locked down, but nothing incredibly flashy. She does have the ability to somehow summon random objects from the streets of New York and pelt her foe with them, however, which is amusing.

Hot on her heels, the disturbing designed Kindred also enters the battle. In a ploy to physiologically destroy Peter Parker, Harry Osborn genetically engineered two bodies sliced from Normal Osbourne and Gwen Stacys’ DNA; Gabriel and Sarah. These two would perish as a result of a genetic flaw, and whilst in hell, Mephisto would forge them into the terrifying villain; Kindred. Given the purple jacket, it seems we are treated to Sarah Stacy.

Fighting alongside their two delightful Centipede familiars, Kindred has a bit more range than you would expect from a melee fighter, with their creepy crawlers able to lash out like whips. Kindred’s combos attack in tandem with the crawlers, dealing rapid strikes and emitting clouds of pestilence. Their combo is suitably disturbing; teleporting towards their enemy in a darkened arena, knocking them to the ground, with the last thing their foe seeing before being clawed are two centipedes advancing towards them.

Marvel: Contest of Champions is available to download now from the App Store and Google Play, with Silk joining on July 20th, and Kindred sneaking in on August 3rd.
