The Total War series has been slowly trickling onto mobile, which is a fantastic thing because most, if not all, of them are incredibly great fun. Creative Assembly's latest to get the Feral Interactive treatment into portable form is Total War: Empire, the entry that changed the franchise.

Total War: Empire is the first in the series that allowed players the opportunity to fight naval battles in real time. Whilst you could argue that Creative Assembly mishandled the concept in later years, Empire was a shining example. The age of gunpowder gave plenty of opportunity to unleash a broadside of cannons and destroy your opponents. Set in the 18th century, you have your choice of 11 factions to command, including Great Britain, France, Sweden, and the United Provinces. Whoever you pick your goal always vaguely remains the same; total domination by any means. Forge alliances, research new technologies, build a massive army, and then march forth and claim the world.

As well as the full Grand Campaign that allows you to indulge in your megalomaniacal urges to become ruler of the world, you can also take part in the Road to Independence. This episodic mini-campaign places you in the middle of the American Revolutionary War. You will play on the side of the revolutionary forces, not that there's anything wrong with the British, of course.

For those who don’t feel like attacking the British who did nothing to deserve it, you can simply sit back and wait for the release of Warpath. This campaign will feature new units, factions, and a bigger North American map to gallivant about. Unfortunately, you will need to purchase this at a separate cost.

Total War: Empire is available to preorder on iOS and Android, ahead of its release on November 21st. It will set you back $19.99
