The new Clash Royale cards explained

This week we were treated to a second surprise update for Clash Royale that brought with it, not only some awesome changes, but a bunch of exciting new cards as well.
To help you decide which ones to introduce to your battle-hardened deck, we've run down the pros and cons of each of them. Read on! Fire Spirits

Fire Spirits is the only new common card in this update, and it spawns a group of three kamikaze troops that deal massive damage for only two Elixir.
You'll want to keep these guys defended from ranged units since they don't have many hit points. But, if used correctly, they can be really effective for defending against Minion Hordes or Barbarians.
You can also try using them on an offensive push to keep swarm units off your tank.
Furnace
Do you like Fire Spirits but wish they had their own hut? Look no further than the Furnace. For five Elixir, this building can produce up to six waves of Fire Spirits.
The Furnace is a great card for anyone looking to add to their spawner deck, and can also be used as a great defence against the Hog Rider.
Lava Hound
The Lava Hound is like a flying Golem. He's incredibly slow, has a ton of hit points, and splits into six Lava Pups when defeated. All of this comes at the hefty price of seven Elixir.
While the Lava Hound only attacks buildings, he can be a great tank for lighter air units like Minions. Also, the Lava Pups that are created when he dies can attack anything, though they're short on health.
Miner
The Miner is unique in the sense that he can appear suddenly anywhere on the map, including right next to a Crown Tower. Although he has relatively high hit points, the Miner doesn't do much damage, and that damage is reduced against Crown Towers.
At three Elixir, the Miner is a good support troop, though he can get swarmed pretty easily.
Sparky
Sparky is a powerhouse of a unit. For six Elixir, you can spawn a lightning tank that has powerful area of effect attacks. So powerful, in fact, that they can take down Crown Towers in just a couple shots.
The drawback here is that it takes five seconds for Sparky to charge a single attack, so try to swarm it ASAP to prevent taking some massive damage.
GuardsThankfully, Guards seem like they were custom-made to counter Sparky. For three Elixir, three skeletons with shields appear that can take a huge hit before losing their protection and dying.
While Guards don't have many hit points and don't deal that much damage, any single-target enemy will have a hard time dealing with them since they can take a long time to defeat.
