The mustache has become the universal sign of a true gent. It signifies class, bravado and most importantly self-respect. There is surely no finer facial accessory in all the land. The developers behind Debonair Facial Hair think not anyway, as they introduce a game that allows players to try their hand at mustache crafting and maintenance.

In the quaint, sleepy English town of Stashton, folks want to look decidedly dapper - especially since there is extra taxation in place for all those who don't rock a furry caterpillar. It's therefore up to players to service the townspeople while creating some of the most impressive facial hair ever seen. Gameplay involves sculpting an artful mustache while simultaneously protecting it from pests such as wasps and birds, the latter of which clearly see an opportunity for nesting.

Swipe over the dots to style as guided, and tap to swat away the incoming critters. Apart from the odd distraction (usually in the form of a large farm animal), there's not much more to Debonair Facial Hair than that - so it becomes predictably tiresome. Even with the entertaining voice acting spanning the length and width of Britain (though to be honest, I did cringe at the frankly low-brow, stereotypical and ignorant sailor impersonation), gameplay still boils down to the same simple mechanic over and over, and unfortunately that just wasn't enough to keep me playing. It might look great, but with only 6 people to style and without providing any further reasons to replay each level besides Game Centre achievements, Debonair Facial Hair doesn't provide much in the way of longevity.

Yes, mustaches are powerful facial accessories, that's a given. However, it doesn't mean that a game based solely on the art of grooming them will be as rewarding as maintaining the real thing. I'm afraid this time it's a 'mustache enthusiasts only' occasion.
