There are a couple of games on the App store that are not only entertaining, but offer players a "zen-like" experience. Games like Fractal: Make Blooms Not War are unique in that they give players a peaceful ordeal, while still being a worthwhile and awesome game. These kinds of experiences may not be the most popular titles on iOS, but are still worthy of attention.
LYNE is a puzzle game where players draw paths of like shapes from a starting point to the ending point. There are usually various shapes on the playing field, but usually only one real solution. There are also special shapes on the board where one is required to cross a given amount of times. As the developer's website says, this game is deceptively easy but infinitely complex.
There aren't any surprising catches about LYNE; no hidden ads or payments, just a lovable game that can be played for 5 minutes or 5 hours in one sitting. The various shapes and intersections, while seemingly simple, aren't always obvious to the user at first glance. It isn't uncommon in this title to have to try multiple solutions in order to solve a puzzle, especially when the varied intersections are introduced. The trouble the intersections give is that, depending on the number of dots in them, they require that the user intersects them with the paths between shapes. Failing to do this will result in the puzzle not being complete.
Graphically, there is hardly anything complex about this title. The background is a constant foggy blueish grey. The shapes themselves are one color, with the starting and ending points represented with a white outline. Once pathways between shapes are made, those will also be indicated on the screen with white lines. But there is no need for fancy graphics, elaborate sounds, or an intense presentation; LYNE is just a simple and sweet puzzle game.
A lot of minimalistic puzzle games that utilize shapes may be easy to learn, but all are challenging to master. Despite the simplistic graphics and overall presentation, LYNE is worth the money. For anyone who like the kind of games that are great time wasters while still working your brain, LYNE is a game worth checking out.
