Leap Worm Review

Remember in Apollo Thirteen when the heroes use the moon’s gravitational field to whip their spacecraft back to earth? Now you can utilize gravitational slingshoting in an even cooler way: by flicking small cartoony space worms around planets to gather stars and get points! In Leap Worm, Igloo games’ newest addition, novice and advanced gamers can gleefully whip around a cute little worm wearing an adorable space helmet using a touch screen and physics.

In Leap Worm the player controls our heroic space worm with a single button function. Yup, a single button is all you need to save the universe. Jump from one planet to another collecting stars, worm extenders, orbs and more. Watch out for other aliens and the evil red leap worms. I recommend avoiding the red worms at all cost. They'll jump when you tell them to, but they are tricky. There are tons of planets to discover, like crumbly planets, ice planets, fuzzy planets, spiky planets, floating bubble planets, disappearing planets, the list goes on. Also, just between us, there is a secret character that can be unlocked. Pretty legit.

The one button gameplay is easy to pick up, but difficult to master. There are 4 levels of difficulty and the increase between each one is just enough to be an honest challenge.

The sound effects are adorable and satisfying. I love the “boing” that resonates when you bounce off the side walls and who would have thought the sound of dying would be so cute? Nice one, Igloo sound engineers. However, there is one downside: there is not a soundtrack at all, which is a bit disappointing. Leap Worm is great fun and totally addicting, so I was hoping for some funky fresh tunes to listen to while I saved the universe.

Even though there is no soundtrack (insert pouting), Leap Worm is a great game that will appeal to younger gamers and advanced gamers alike. The sound effects are satisfying, the challenges exciting and layered, and with 4 levels of difficulty to choose from, Leap Worm is bound to provide hours of gravitational fun.
