The best new games we played this week - September 14

The work week can be tough, but on the bright side, it's almost over and there are bunches of brand new games to try out this weekend. This week definitely makes up for last week's sleepiness ten-fold. We've got one of the finest RTS game on mobile this week, a lovely little puzzler, and plenty of other goodies to keep you entertained for weeks to come. Let's get right down to it, shall we?

Is Iron Marines the new contender for best mobile real-time strategy title? Well, um, actually yes. This excellent strategy game is the closest thing you'll find to Starcraft on mobile devices. All of the base-building and troop management mechanics are there, but they've been designed with touchscreens in mind, and the gameplay is truly revolutionary.

Another fine, quirky sports game from the creator of Golf Zero and Touchdowners, Battle Golf Online is a truly charming competitive multiplayer golfing game that the mobile space has sorely been missing. Gameplay is light, going for more of a putt-putt feel than intensive golf competitions, but the arcade-style flow to things is truly addictive. Plus, there are plenty of fun items to collect once you hit your stride. Not convinced? Check out our review.

Square Enix's 1986 title King's Knight just got an unexpected revival this week on mobile. Despite the usual freemium gimmicks, there's actually a pretty darn good game deep down in there. King's Knight melds RPG elements with a side-scrolling shooter for something completely different. That familiar Square Enix polish still shines through, though, making this an easy choice for our favorite games of the week list.

Sprnkls is a mad clever match'em up puzzle game with a lot of love poured into it as well. Inspired by the designer's favorite childhood puzzle games, Sprnkls is definitely a must-have for fans of puzzle games. Players will match colored tiles, but there's a whole lot more to it than that, and we don't want to spoil the cerebal surprises for you.

Drag'n'Boom could be your new go-to platformer. Featuring an adorable little dragon, the game mixes frantic Flappy Bird-esque platforming with shooting mechanics a la Angry Birds for something surprisingly unique.
