InvoiceOn Review

As developers of both hardware and software attempt to usher in the 'post-pc era', we see many apps appearing that are aimed at performing a very specific task. Often simplifying a process that otherwise may require several apps to perform on a mobile device. InvoiceOn is an app that attempts this, and as a self-employed writer it certainly appealed to me.

The idea of InvoiceOn is to allow for the managing and sending of invoices from an iPhone, all from within the one app. The way it works makes it particularly useful if managing several products or repeat clients, as it allows the user to input these things across its separate tabbed interface. Then upon creating an actual invoice, it's simply a case of selecting the client, products, tax level, discounts and such -- all of which can be predefined -- and InvoiceOn takes care of the pricing, totals and layout. Payment methods can be added upfront in the same way, and it's even possible for the app to include a 'pay now with paypal' button within the invoice. Particularly useful for somebody dealing with online services or sales.

Additional customization features, such as the ability to add a company logo and custom invoice numbers, are a nice touch too. The app performs all these things perfectly, creating a well laid-out email that both looks professional and shows the recipient exactly what they need to see in order to complete payment. There could be a few improvements made, of course. I'd feel much better if the invoices were sent as a PDF attachment, for example. The ability to send a reminder would be hugely valuable, also, as anybody that's spent time chasing up unpaid invoices can attest to. It'd also be extremely helpful to have a 'syncable' desktop or browser-based app of some kind, as most users wouldn't be solely managing their invoice inventory from a single iPhone.

As it stands, though, it does exactly what it says in the description and allows the user to include as much or as little details as they wish, suiting just about any invoicing circumstance. It works perfectly and for somebody that does find themselves sending a lot of invoices with repeat products or clients from their mobile device, this app is one that could save an awful amount of time and effort once configured.
