Hearthstone’s new mode Mercenaries negates decks completely
Mercenaries, the new turn-based RPG mode, will be rolled out on October 12.

Hearthstone has revealed its brand-new game mode, Mercenaries. Interestingly, the renowned card game has decided to drop decks altogether for the new mode. Mercenaries will instead be an RPG that includes Warcraft characters and a non-Warcraft character.
The new turn-based game mode was unveiled in a gameplay showcase. Players can view the entire showcase on Hearthstone's YouTube channel.
In the new mode, players start off with eight characters placed in the Village. Here, characters can be managed and trained. From there, players can send off the group of characters on a bounty run or a competitive battle against other players. This means that the game has both PvP and PvE modes.
Players can pick three characters and form a squad with them. After determining their actions, the real battle begins. The turn-based round is played out based on decision-making as well as some action.
The mercenaries a.k.a. the in-game characters come in three varieties. They are fighter, caster, and protector with the outcome of fights between them being determined by a rock-paper-scissors pattern.
The upcoming launch will introduce 50 mercenary characters into the game. This will include the Lich King, Sylvanas, and Diablo. Players who finish the prologue will be granted a mouse mount in World of Warcraft. The turn-based gameplay is somewhat similar to Hearthstone’s Battlegrounds mode.
The Hearthstone Mercenaries mode will be available to play from October 12, 2021. It remains to be seen whether the new mode will receive the same support as it did before.
The ongoing allegations and the lawsuit against Activision Blizzard have made many players turn their backs on the game. Some other players have started in-game protests. The lawsuit was filed back in July by California’s Department of Fair Employment and Housing.
