Hacky Sack or as us Brits say, Keepie Uppie, is a fun game of kicking a ball up in the air while ensuring that it never hits the ground. It turns out this game can be just as fun if you substitute the ball for a cat. Wait, what? No, I'm not being cruel, I'm talking about the animated cats in Hackycat. It's not something that should ever be tried in real life but the cats in Hackycat seem to love it, almost as much as players will.

There's nothing more complicated to Hackycat than simply trying to keep the cats bouncing in the air. That doesn't make the game easy but it does make it an ideal time waster as it involves little thought. Players just have to tap around on the screen to be near the cat in order to kick, knee or headbutt it in the air. It sounds gory but Hackycat offers it in a cute and happy kind of way, with adorable cats in plentiful supply.

Points are gained for simply keeping them buoyant but there's also more to be made through the acquisition of the cat's favorite snack: the humble "cheezburger". A mixture of flicking and swiping helps direct the furry creatures, with such snacks leading to a special Superkick move, propelling them into space. Simple yet oh so effective.

It's fun, too. There are plenty of cats to collect, via spending points or through in-app purchases, each with their own bonuses and cute name. Power-ups are gained in a similar way and each proves useful in the quest to be the greatest Hackycatter out there. Much like many Endless Runners, Hackycat lends itself to regular sessions as players gradually progress further and further, completing mini goals as they play.

A game like this could have so easily seemed like terribly bad taste but its cartoon style nature ensures that Hackycat is simply mindless fun. It's the kind of game that easily turns "just one more go" into an hour of joy. Just remember: Don't try this at home.

Hackycat

It sounds potentially horrific but it turns out that kicking cartoon cats in the air is a great way to spend some spare time.
