Granny Smith is not just some average, bingo-playing granny. When the neighborhood thief takes off with her prized apples, she straps on her roller skates to pursue him and take back what’s hers. Swinging from power lines and breaking through walls of houses, Granny will do whatever it takes to make sure she collects all her apples before the thief gets to them.

Granny Smith is the latest to come from the minds of Mediocre Games, the same company that released the popular game, Sprinkle. In the game, players roll with Granny on her trusty skates to collect all her apples that the thief has stolen. Granny skates on her own but it’s up to players to help her jump and grab hold of power lines to avoid obstacles. There are two on-screen buttons: one for jumping and one for extending Granny’s cane to slide on the power lines. I like that the controls are so simple while allowing Granny to overcome just about anything that comes her way. The game is broken down into individual levels, each containing three apples that need to be collected. Each level also has coins scattered around that Granny collects to buy baseballs to break through walls and banana peels to throw in the way of the thief to slow him down.

I really liked the creativity and layouts of each level. One minute Granny will be flying over a house and the next minute she will be underground in the sewer system skating on pipes. The vintage-style artwork is great and I love the characters. I caught myself chuckling at the absurdity of the idea of a granny flipping through the air on skates just to collect some apples. It’s such a unique idea for a game and I think it has been executed very well.

Currently there are only 36 levels available, with the promise of more to come in future updates. Since the levels are so short, I was able to blow through all of them fairly quickly. However, I have continued to go through each level again to try to top my scores because the game is fun to play and I’m just not ready to put it down.

The sum it all up, Granny Smith is a winner. From the characters to the zany gameplay, there’s a whole lot to love in this $0.99, universal app and I can’t wait for additional levels to be added on.
