Galaxy Dash is an endless flying game that puts players on a perilous courier mission to secure some valuable cargo before returning it to a drop-off point, all while battling alien bandits and blasting asteroids to smithereens.
While for the most part it's standard runner fare in terms of dodging maneuvers and tap-to-shoot commands, the curvature of the flight path adds an extra challenge to gameplay in the sense that the ship only fires straight, so won't hit an oncoming target until it is directly in front of it. This means that when a pesky enemy craft comes along to flaunt their precious cargo, timing shots right while weaving in and out of asteroids and other enemies makes each dogfight that bit more tense.
The disadvantage is that players won't be able to see some obstacles until they're too close for comfort, and even then an asteroid is not always easy to distinguish against the floating space rocks nearby, never mind which flight path it's on. While the visuals are colorful and cartoony, the environments are a bit too monotonous despite the obvious color changes that come from entering a different nebula. Also, I found a frequent bug that occurred every time I minimized and re-opened the app mid-run that would prevent me from maneuvering the ship.
Players can change-up their crew once they've unlocked them with the in-game currency that comes from a successful cargo drop-off. Each character is able to utilize a power-up that is unique to them, adding a bit of variety to the way a run pans out. Players can also upgrade their ships to stand a better chance at survival.
Galaxy Dash is an enjoyable runner, and I can see it being a hit with kids thanks to the light-hearted tone throughout, but it was just a bit too repetitive for me, with each run not terribly different from the last. Respect where it's due though, because Galaxy Dash is a free runner with no sign of energy system at all. I know, I didn't think it was possible either.
