Bigger and better, Forever Lost: Episode 3 is here at last - two years after Episode 2 was released. Given it’s been a while it's advisable to replay earlier episodes, but Forever Lost: Episode 3 goes some way to correcting that through a series of ‘previously’ moments when you start out. Either way, it’s a potent adventure game that’s likely to entice.

As before, Forever Lost: Episode 3 likes to keep you on your toes and slightly confused about what’s going on. Distinctly dark and atmospheric, Forever Lost: Episode 3 isn’t afraid to throw in some puns, but it does look pretty gloomy on the surface.

Everything is conducted via a first person perspective, as you explore various rooms, trying to piece together what’s going on, while solving various puzzles. Those puzzles are often quite tricky but also quite logical (excluding a few that don't quite work), but a plethora of hints means you can always find help.

Many of them involve plenty of thought, but there are a few that are skills based, which I found a little frustrating. Fortunately, there’s usually a way to skip them eventually, but they were my least favorite of the bunch. What was more satisfying was those that involved you piecing together evidence earlier gleaned.

This is also where photo snapping comes into effect again. As before, you can take photos, for reference, proving more immersive than simply checking in on an in-game journal at regular points. Forever Lost: Episode 3 also throws in a taster session of Glitch Games’s earlier release, Ferris Mueller’s Day Off, courtesy of an in-game arcade machine. It's a slightly odd diversion, but it's worth looking at.

It’s those little touches that keep Forever Lost: Episode 3 interesting. It’s bigger than the others, but that’s not down to filler content - that’s down to saving the best for last. It’s a worthy conclusion to a grim but fascinating delve into a creepy asylum.

Forever Lost

Forever Lost: Episode 3 is a fine conclusion to a good adventure series.
