| Fighting Fantasy: Starship Traveller

Regular fans of Tin Man Games' offerings will notice that this installment is a tad different from usual. With a space age layout and a much more involved set up process, Fighting Fantasy: Starship Traveller captures the change of pace that the book also offered in the Fighting Fantasy series. It ensures that this is one of the more memorable titles out there.

Think Star Trek and one isn't far off. Players start out as a new captain of the Starship Traveller, gathering together their crew (with the option of naming them as well as assigning stats) before exploring the galaxy. There's plenty of danger to dodge, as well as exciting new planets to discover. Plus, there's always the risk of messing things up a la the Prime Directive of Star Trek. Such flexibility ensures that Fighting Fantasy: Starship Traveller feels much more varied than most.

Before landing on any planet, players get to choose who they take from their crew with different team members opening up different options once on the surface. As well as that, combat is quite varied with the option to stun as well as kill enemies. It's still business as usual elsewhere with a selection of different options to take to move to the next page. Plus, there's the choice of difficulty modes depending on one's ability level, but that's a format that has always worked well for the series.

The mixture of new and old elements, ensures that Fighting Fantasy: Starship Traveller is going to stick in adventure gamebook fans's memories for a while to come. It feels more interactive than others thanks to the variety of different crew members, easily enhancing the replayability factor. Therefore, it's a no brainer of a purchase - especially for Sci-Fi fans.
