Fast & Furious 6: The Game Review

| CSR Racing

Mix the popular Fast and The Furious series of films with CSR Racing and you get Fast & Furious 6: The Game. It's a compelling enough title, but much like its influence, it's heavy on the in-app purchases or waiting it out for another play.

Fast & Furious 6: The Game does come with its own set of features, such as a story mode and a drifting variety of race, but it's pretty familiar territory for those who lost plenty of time to CSR Racing. Essentially, players compete in a series of brief races, acquire more money which can be spent on upgrades, before progressing to the next, harder race. Simple yet oddly compelling. The downside is that this invokes a certain amount of grinding. Rarely, does completing one race immediately give the player another money to upgrade their ride to pass the next stage without any difficulty. Instead, repeating a race or two is needed.

There is, at least, a fair amount of variety. Each day, a set of daily races are made available, offering extra money than the usual supply. As mentioned, drag racing isn't the only option here either, with drift racing possible too. While the former requires merely the flick of a finger to shift up or down a gear at the appropriate moment, the latter also requires keeping an eye on the track to engage drift mode at the right time. Ultimately, though, it's all a form of rhythm game with a racing motif.

Fans will appreciate the Fast & Furious 6: The Game themed visuals, and the story mode that throws in some familiar faces. There are visual upgrades to make, as well as performance orientated ones, too, but, of course, money plays a big issue. This isn't a game to play for hours on end either as, like CSR Racing, players are restricted by their fuel supplies, meaning they can only play a few times before waiting for the timer to run down.

It's not that there isn't some fun to be gained from Fast & Furious 6: The Game. It just takes too long to eke out for those who don't want to throw money at it.

It's not that Fast & Furious 6 isn't a fun drag racer, it's just that its slow recharging mechanic puts one off getting drawn in.
