Skatelander is a 'fun for five minutes' kind of game. You won’t remember it for any great length of time, you’ll have seen endless games like this before - both in terms of attitude and style (hey, Crossy Road) - but you’ll still enjoy what’s here.
You skateboard your way through various landscapes with a side scrolling perspective meaning you always know what’s ahead of you. Holding a finger to either side of the screen help you negotiate the various obstacles but being overwhelmed is something to expect, rather than be ashamed of. You can jump over obstacles too, but only after waiting for your jump button to recharge.
Replayability comes in the form of unlocking new characters, either through earning sufficient money through playing (expect this to take a while) or through free unlocks at regular points.
It’s all quite simple stuff but also rather charming. Skatelander won’t set the world on fire with its innovation, and you'll end up wishing for more trick variety, but it will entertain you. And iff it had leaderboard support it’d be all the more gripping.
