4 fantastic console to mobile ports

FIFA Mobile released this week, and it's made a divide of sorts among fans. On the one hand, it's addictive and the streamlined mechanics make it a good time-filler when you're on the go. On the other, this is definitely not a full FIFA game, and probably won't satisfy fans with a greater investment in the FIFA series. 

While FIFA Mobile doesn't promise to be a full FIFA port to mobile, it's sad to see that EA is straying away from bringing that sort of experience to Apple and Android devices. If FIFA Mobile is making you sad with its shift towards short and snappy mobile-friendly gameplay, you'll be pleased to know that there are plenty of games that have made the jump from console to mobile to fill the holes left by your favorite football franchise. Let's take a look at five of the best! 

Final Fantasy IX
Square Enix has made some questionable choices in the past when bringing some of its classic Final Fantasy games to mobile, but not this time. Final Fantasy IX on mobile is overall a fine edition of the game. While the backgrounds look a little blurred on mobile, the character models have been touched up and really pop on the screen. The touch controls, too, are smart and easy to use. 

 

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
One of the most well-loved Grand Theft Auto games, San Andreas is a beautiful mobile port featuring remastered graphics for its portable release. GTA: San Andreas offers over 50 hours of gameplay and boasts physical controller support. 

Bastion
Supergiant Games' bittersweet first game, Bastion, received overwhelming praise when it was released on PC and consoles, and again after its universal mobile launch. Bastion has solid touch controls and looks gorgeous, so you can make your way through the game's lonely post-apocalyptic world the way the creators intended. 

 

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
This classic Bioware RPG might look a bit dated, but the game still stands strong to this day as one of the finest Western RPGs around. It's always fascinating replaying KOTOR and observing how the game influenced modern RPGs. Aspyr did an amazing job in porting the game to mobile devices, ensuring that the game remained largely unchanged while designing functional touch controls. 

Bringing full console games to mobile does present a design challenge, but we think the games listed above make the conversion with grace. If you're looking for a lengthy console experience on a mobile device, you can't go wrong with any of these titles.
