Audiobooks Review

More and more companies are moving to subscription-based offerings these days. Audiobooks.com is one such company that has been offering unlimited access to audiobooks to download for a monthly price of $24.95. Audiobooks has now released its iPhone app that gives its subscribers access to audiobooks on the go. The service is great for anyone who loves audiobooks and the app makes life just a little bit easier for listening to all the books available within Audiobooks.com's portfolio.

Audiobooks are great, especially for people like me who that commute a long distance for work. Listening to music in the car and train is entertaining, but audiobooks are a nice change of pace. The Audiobooks app works well for all us commuters out there that are looking to get access to thousands of audiobooks without having to download them on a computer first. The app itself is very easy to use and has similar functionality to stock iOS apps like iTunes. Users can browse, search and download any book available within the app’s library over WiFi or cellular network. The app also allows for streaming over cellular network to avoid taking up memory space. Each book will play through a three-minute sample before asking users if they want to continue listening. If the user continues, the full book will then begin downloading or streaming depending on the user’s preferences.

Downloading this app is a no brainer for anyone with a current Audiobooks.com subscription. The real question is if it’s worth it or not for new users. This will depend greatly on the subject matter each user enjoys reading. Unfortunately, I found that there aren’t many titles available that I personally would enjoy. That said, the Audiobook’s library does include many of the classics and a fairly good amount of new releases. In my opinion, the $24.95 monthly subscription is a bit steep considering the options available. However, others may think differently depending on their taste in books. Fortunately, a free trial is available to give anyone interested a no-risk time frame to test the waters.

Overall, the app itself works well and as advertised. The app currently doesn’t support cover art on the lock screen but I'm hopeful this will become available in time. Other than that, it’s very easy to use and a must for current and new Audiobooks.com subscribers.
