Asuria Awakens

As you’d expect from the masters of adventure gamebook apps, Gamebook Adventures 12: Asuria Awakens is a highly enjoyable tale. It offers plenty of suspense, great artwork, and still throws in lots of decisions to make you feel as though you're a key part of what’s unfolding. Fans of the genre are going to be pretty happy.

Civil unrest is the theme here with an emissary from Orlandes City visiting the remote Orlandrian coastal town of Casporur, before mysteriously disappearing. Clearly bad things are coming and it’s down to you to figure out what’s going on.

Gamebook Adventures 12: Asuria Awakens plays out like a conventional gamebook for the most part. Sometimes, you have fights to participate in through a series of dice rolls, while other times, you’re making key decisions to see how things unfold. Gamebook Adventures 12: Asuria Awakens throws in something a little special too in the form of extra skills.

Persuasion, Strength, Throwing, and Deduction all play an important role. In each case, you can boost your powers through pursuing particular paths, meaning you can sort of adapt your character to your way of doing things. It makes a pleasant change from the usual way of doing things and adds a fun layer to what’s already there.

The story is reasonably gripping too, enticing you into seeing what happens next. Pitfalls can occur so expect to replay it a few times unless you chicken out and switch to the easy ‘casual’ mode which offers up free choices and the ability to heal at any time.

Throughout, Gamebook Adventures 12: Asuria Awakens looks delightful as you’d expect from the series, enticing you through appealing visuals as well as a compelling storyline. In a way it’s business as usual, but when business is this good that’s no bad thing at all.
