2015 has been and gone, and with it an absolute ton of awesome mobile games. We thought it couldn't possibly stand up to 2014 (which had Monument Valley, for crying out loud) but it did. It really did.

While I'd love to just gush about 50 or so awesome games I've played - on my various mobile devices alone - I've narrowed it down to just four. Yes, just four.

Without further ado, read on to discover more about, not only my favourite mobile game of 2015, but a few honourable mentions as well. The best

When I first booted up Skiing Yeti Mountain, experienced my first segment of narrative, and skiied my first slope, I realised that it would be my game of the year. That was back in May.

I haven't been proven wrong since - Skiing Yeti Mountain is an absolute treasure on mobile. The skiing mechanics are dangerously satisfying, the visuals gorgeously pixelated, and the narrative incredibly intriguing (to say the least).

Though I never made it to the end, I thoroughly enjoyed my journey down Yeti Mountain and will likely return for more soon enough. If you haven't played it yet, fix that. Right now.

Alto's Adventure came very close to pipping Skiing Yeti Mountain to the top spot. What it lacks in narrative, it more than makes up for in visuals. Seriously, this is one of the most gorgeous and atmospheric games you'll ever play - and it's all the more impressive that it's on iPad.

It's basically Ski Safari but with a snowboard and less animals - though your main goal is to gather up your runaway llamas.

You'll perform tricks, grab currency, purchase upgrades, and escape sleepy elders on an adventure that will remain in your memory long after you've stopped playing it.

Combo Queen escaping the notice of the mobile game masses is one of 2015's biggest mysteries. It's that good.

It's an endless runner mixed with a rhythm action RPG. Yes, it spans that many genres. You run from enemy to enemy, beating them down with rhythmically-timed dual axe moves.

It's slick, looks absolutely gorgeous, and features a compelling upgrade and item system. You can purchase new axes and armour, as well as useful items to give you a temporary boost.

On top of that, there are a ton of secrets to discover. So much so, that I never felt like I'd scratched the surface, despite playing for over 10 hours.

My final honourable mention goes to Card Crawl, which turns Solitaire into a dungeon crawler RPG.

You're dealt cards by a thirsty monster in a bar, and have to figure out the best way to remove all cards from the deck. You have weapons and shields you can equip, healing items to use, and enemies to defeat.

There are also special skills that you can unlock which give you an edge in battle. It's a great blend of genres and an incredibly interesting spin on one of the world's favourite card games.
