[Having trouble reaching super levels of awesome (or awesome levels of super)? Take a look at our Super Awesome Quest! tips and tricks guide.]

Super Awesome Quest is far from a complex RPG. In fact, it takes seconds to learn, but that doesn’t stop it from being quite beguiling and the kind of game that’s just asking for ‘just one more go’.

You take your character from adventure to adventure, duelling various monsters and creatures for the sake of experience and gold. There’s a strong focus on grinding here but when each stage doesn’t take long to complete, it dodges feeling too tedious.

Much of this is thanks to how you fight it out. Each level is made up of a series of tiles. You tap on one to activate its ability, as well as flip over surrounding tiles. Individual tips can inflict so much damage but the true strength lies in matching tiles. Have a series of matching tiles lined up and attached to each other, and they inflict a lot more damage. It’s a simple mechanism but one that adds a certain layer of strategy to proceedings. Some tiles are defensive, boosting your health or offering you a protective shield, ensuring there’s more strategy involved when it comes to deciding what your next move should be.

Elsewhere, you can upgrade your equipment and personalize your character. You can recruit pets to fight by your side too, which can make all the difference in battle. It’s all fairly simply done, meaning it’s accessible stuff. You won’t struggle to understand what’s going on, and it suits the mobile nature of this RPG.

Of course, Super Awesome Quest ends up a little heavy handed with in-app purchases as is often the way with such games, but it’s kind of forgivable. You can still get somewhere by chipping away at the game yourself, and you’ll easily lose some free time to this title. Eventually that urge to see around the next corner will fade, but while it lasts you’ll be itching for more time spent flipping tiles.
