| Knights of Pen & Paper 2

While the comedic moments are still a little hit and miss, Knights of Pen & Paper 2 is easily a refined and superior version compared to its predecessor. In many ways, it’s the perfect mobile game, easily allowing you to achieve something in a short space of time, without being impeded by your location or your free time.

As before, it’s an RPG akin to Dungeons & Dragons with you listening to the games master and taking decisions from a variety of choices. You start out with two characters, picking out a race and class for them, before pursuing the adventurer’s life. With enough gold, you can unlock more characters to fight by your side.

There’s a fair amount of grinding involved, both in terms of experience acquisition and gaining more money which can then be used to unlock more content. It’s fun though. A few minutes play can easily help you complete a quest or two, meaning it’s the perfect time waster. You can choose to buy gold to progress faster, but it’s far from essential.

Combat is turn based and simply completed, with you able to dictate how many enemies you come up against, thereby affecting the difficulty level each time.

New to the sequel are dungeons, with you able to take decisions based around where to go next. Some rooms are empty, while others contain chests or monsters. It’s reasonably varied, ensuring it’s an interesting experience. Traps can play a role too, with dice rolls dictating how well things are going to turn out for you.

As before, Knights of Pen & Paper 2 is a condensed tabletop RPG and it works so well. It does turn a little repetitive after a time, but you’ll find yourself coming back for more. There’s always somewhere new to explore or a new piece of equipment to pursue, thanks to monthly in-game magazines offering new things. That trickle feed of content means you’ll always be returning, just to see what you can find next.
