It’s refreshing when a game hits the app store that really creates a new style of gaming, even if it borrows on ideals from previous games. Bar Oasis brings a great grouping of top notch story and RPG elements together that provides an engaging and interesting story that continues to be an interesting title from the beginning to the end of the game.
Game play in Bar Oasis is mainly focused on tilting the pocket sized iDevice at a certain angle in order to pour enough of each ingredient into a glass, thereby preparing the order each customer requests. This is sometimes confusing and frustrating as its difficult trying to decide between pouring fast and easily beating the clock, or trying to be more accurate but possibly running over the allotted time. Eventually I found my style and started to see a few better drinks, but overall I found it fairly difficult to get Excellent rating drinks.
The drink pouring is only one element of the game though. Time Management of each customer, interactions with each customer including directed conversations, and an engaging storyline help to bring the drink pouring portion together into a game that is a winning combination.
Graphically, Bar Oasis is pretty crisp. The game uses actual liquor bottles, rather than manufactured ones. This made identifying drinks a little easier, especially for a veteran drinker such as myself :-D. An appealing soundtrack helps to keep the game from getting overly annoying as well.
Bar Oasis is an excellent title that should be tried by everyone. With a lite version available, there isn’t really any reason not to try it out. If you decide to pick it up, you’ll only need to fork over $0.99.
