I found an iPad on the bus.
It felt heavy but was no thicker than usual. I pressed the power button but nothing happened.
I figured it was broken - so I threw it on the bench with my keys and didn't think about it again.
Time passed. I forgot about it. It eventually was buried under unopened junk mail and receipts.
It was a little after midnight. In the middle of the week. The iPad had been sitting on the bench for over a fortnight, I suppose.
I awoke, disoriented. It took me a moment to remember where I was. It was my apartment... but it felt... foreign. Like I was just a house-guest.
From the living room came a strange... hollow sound. Not dissonant, but not exactly tonal. Neither comforting nor frightening.
The iPad was awake. Its screen was illuminating a stack of envelopes and projecting their vapid contents onto the ceiling.
I brushed the paper onto the floor and picked up the iPad.
Cube & Star: An Arbitrary Love was onscreen. The cube was bouncing of its own accord.
I touched the screen in an attempt to halt its ceaseless rolling.
And I was back on the bus. It was hot, I was on my way to work. I was tired and a hot cup of coffee was leaking onto the thigh of my jeans.
On the seat beside me was a misplaced iPad.
I picked it up... it felt heavier than usual, but....
