Description

"Of the millions of apps out there, none quite capitalize on the sheer fun and beauty of interactivity the way that Scott Snibbe’s do.” --CoolHunting

** #1 Music App in Mac App Store Worldwide ** iTunes Top 10 App of the Year for Art and Music on iOS **

Bubble Harp draws bubbles around your mouse’s strokes, recording and replaying your movements while creating music. It’s a combination of drawing, animation, music, art, geometry, and gaming. You can record long movements of a single point, or stream many points out of your cursor like ink. Through the pop-up control panel at the screen’s bottom, you can change from single points to streams of points, change graphic and sonic parameters, and load and save files. Bubble Harp was first released as a work of interactive art by Scott Sona Snibbe that was only available in galleries and museums. Now it’s available as a Mac application that also makes music.

Rated #1 Music App and Apple's Top Music App in many countries, since its release.

Note: .bhp files created with this app will load on both Mac and iOS versions.

COOL!! GETS CRAZY LOOKS OVER THE SHOULDER

Very Very interesting musical app. It's well worth the price tag. ...Has endless / mindless possibilities. ...It's real time fun.. serves its indie entertainment purpose. Could be used for more. Could... I feel like it has payed me back in respect.. Several people have seen me running this app in public at lunch. It's definitely an attention grabber... Over all good app. ...... -'s .. Wishing this would default to a smaller window. The export to file is buggy at times and crashes. Would like some controls. … summery.. a fun-tastic realtime interactive screen saver per-say. Two thumbs up.. only gave it 4 stars because of an export 'crash out of the box'.

Experimental Art + Music! Bubble Harp is the best!

Another great app from Scott Snibbe! I love this one because it allows one to generate a continuous stream of music and visuals which never repeat themselves. So one could literatlly compose a piece, and play with it for hours. The toolbar appears when you move your mouse to the bottom of the screen, which allow you to change the rate of "streaming" lines, erase lines, etc. The music sounds great on the Mac version, perhaps because my speakers are better than on iPhone/iPad. One of the most interesting controls on the toolbar is to change the scale (Pentatontic, Blues, Hungarian, etc). Instantly your composition is changed, and it would be a great way to teach oneself or one's children about music. I think both kids and adults would get something out of this (I have seen babies, children and adults alike using the iPad version). Definitely worth the price!

Ran it once, was amused. Probably won't again.

I'm torn. On the one hand, I remember programs like this on the original 128K Mac—they were simple, they did something marginally interesting, and I loved them. And I miss apps like that. On the other hand, that was 26 years ago and I don't have quite as much free time as I did when I was 10 years old.

I don't expect I'll play around with this again because it doesn't have an obvious logic. I doodle around and make the sounds change, but I don't see the why or how of it. I can't affect it in any predictable fashion, which kind of kills the interactive aspect. Compare that with (e.g.) Soundrop, which has me going for hours, tweaking geometry and exploring different interesting sounds and rhythms. Bubble Harp looks nice, but I haven't found any depth to it yet.
